Local internet provider Melita, is extending free wi-fi access in Paceville until the end of April 2012.
“The results obtained from this pilot project are very encouraging. We have also received very good feedback from our clients and other stakeholders. We are determined to invest further in this initiative which may eventually lead to the deployment of a nationwide wi-fi network for the convenience of its clients”, Malcolm Briffa, Melita’s Head of PR and Strategic Projects said.
The free wi-fi period is being extended to enable Melita to gather more information on usage patterns as well as additional client feedback on user experience. The service leverages the strength of the nationwide availability of Melita’s FibrePower broadband Internet technology.
Earlier this year, Melita announced that in the first two weeks of the free wifi trials in Paceville, more than 2000 hours of Internet were used.
Any person in possession of a wi-fi enabled device may use this service for free. The service also applies to individuals who are subscribed to other mobile operators. All one needs to do is search available Wi-Fi networks and select the network “M FREE Wi-Fi” followed by simple instructions.
The free Wi-FI service is currently available in the main streets of Paceville covering an area of almost half a square kilometre including; Xatt Ta’ San Gorg, Triq Santu Wistin, Triq Santa Rita, Triq San Gorg, parts of Triq Elija Zammit, parts of Triq Id-Dragunara, Triq Il-Wilga and Triq Ball.
Melita’s Wi-Fi trial project is underway with the collaboration of industry leaders Motorola, Belair and Aptilo.
